The retro is perfect.Learn more about the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro Model BrandĬaptures finer, more accurate details. Nice getting something working that's so old. Choose a PID for a camera that is basically the same as the one you have (vintage and base features). Other folks my be able to do something similar.

Probably wise to backup the system first and figure out how to boot into safe mode if you plan to install more than just the driver or plan to test any QC installs. If install full QC then go to task manager, startup and disable the logitech items so they don't load at login- might be two entries there. You can get complete quickcam software to install but be careful since it can cause a graphics display problem- blank screen after login making it difficult to undo.

I was unable to get Win10 Camera app to be able to adjust exposure but don't care. Close it and run the Win10 Camera app or other. Test with the program amcap8.exe found in the logitech folder in program files (x86) (techsupt\CaptureTest). A "logitech camera driver" program entry shows up in control panel/programs and features list. In other words, don't install the QC software program, just the minimum (driver only). I recommend selecting "custom" in the installer, and make sure to deselect everything except for just the drivers. What I did was change all entries in the logitech folder and subfolders that had 08B2 to 08B1 and then ran setup.exe in the logitech folder in program files (x86) (left from the initial failed install). Read about it if you don't understand this. You can put the system back after installing the driver. If not Win10 will choke on the old driver if driver signing is on. Then disable integrity checking and reboot (and/or turn on test mode). Will need to disable driver signing in Win10- may require rebooting into bios and disable secure boot. I didn't test or fuss around enough to know and don't have complete expertise how it works.

If not, then perhaps the LST files in the Bin folder are also needed (if so then update them too). Might be able to just change the files in PRO64 directory and point device manager to it for driver update. I did all files where 08B2 was present (e.g. Install fails, but a logitech directory is left in program files (x86). Basics are below in case you understand it and can figure it out on your own. My guess is they are way too short on SW people that know what they're doing. Nissim TS, I spoke with Logi and got nowhere. There are other solutions that work great. I'm all for capitalism and profits, but part of capitalism means watching out for the bite you get if you leave your customers behind.

Hopefully, the good folks at Logitech will see that profiting from the current huge spike of webcam sales will justify spending some money helping the people with older products and are asking for a break. I can see a $20 webcam losing support in a few years, but not one that's comparable to the StreamCam in price. No sense in buying another nice webcam, like the $170 StreamCam, if it's just going to be worthless hardware trash in the near future when Logitech stops caring about it. If the choice is to leave folks like us in the dust, thinking we'll buy another expensive webcam from you, that's wrong thinking.

It even has a manual focus ring for sharp 1280 images. While it's a dated product, this is a perfect webcam for a high schooler that requires one now.
